Announcing Our Series B Funding Round

We founded Code Ocean to close a key gap in tools for computational science that have become overly complex or leave valuable code and data assets behind. Our aim is to make prior science easy to access and reproducible at any time – now or in future –  so that they are used as critical building blocks for scientific progress. To advance computational science at a faster pace, we built a digital lab for the coding scientist so that they could reproduce their work easily, gain access to simplified cloud computing and collaborate seamlessly towards even faster open science discoveries. Today, Code Ocean is proud to be at the forefront of empowering computational scientists to focus on science and improve research outcomes.

In recent years, technological advances have led to an explosion of big data, customizable computing power, and advanced analysis techniques in computational science. But it has also created a set of new challenges for researchers around both managing and leveraging this complexity. Now more than ever, each piece of code that has value must be easy to run and available to share and collaborate within your own lab, with appropriate protection and governance in place.

We are proud to have established a track record of success with researchers and leading biopharma companies. Disciplines ranging from genomics to AI-driven drug development all greatly benefit from Code Ocean’s platform. Premier biopharma companies such as Sema4, Lantern, Champions Oncology, CytoReason, Dragonfly Therapeutics, and more are already able to lower the cost of computational research and empower computational scientists to focus on science through our digital lab concept. We are thankful for the opportunity to work with everyone in the computational science space, from leading research organizations to innovative, game-changing startups to share scientific knowledge and empower better, faster discoveries.

Today, we announced a $16.5 million Series B funding round, co-led by Battery Ventures and Microsoft’s M12 venture arm, to drive further innovation and extend the reach of our platform to help more research teams. This new round of funding will help Code Ocean continue to solve some of the most fundamental challenges in computational research: reproducibility, collaboration, security, and productivity. We are excited about what this means for the future of Code Ocean and to the computational research field overall.

Register for our webinar on June 16th to learn all about the Code Ocean 2.0 release and what it means for automation within our platform.

We are inspired each and every day by the powerful, impactful research that our users are publishing using Code Ocean, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all who have supported us on this journey.
