Ocean FTP Server
Help, configuration and tips.

Limits
These settings allow you to impose certain restrictions on the use of the FTP server. By using these controls, you can help keep your FTP server secure and also reduce load. These controls also allow you to control the amount of bandwidth (throttle control) that the entire FTP server is allowed.

  • Max Account Size (MB) - This option allows you to restrict all accounts to a maximum fixed amount of disk usage (disk quota control). Once the account contains or exceeds the amount of data specified here, no more file writing will be permitted until space is freed.
  • Max Daily Upload (KB) - This options allows you to restrict the maximum amount of data that can be uploaded to an account per day.
  • Max Daily Download (KB) - This options allows you to restrict the maximum amount of data that can be downloaded from an account per day.
  • Max Upload Speed (KB/s) - This option allows you to restrict the bandwidth allowance for the uploading of files. This value is shared amongst all users and so if the limit was set to 10 KB/s, the result would be that 2 simultaneous uploads would be limited to 5 KB/s each. If only a single user was uploading then they would be able to use the full 10 KB/s.
  • Max Download Speed (KB/s) - This option allows you to restrict the bandwidth allowance for the downloading of files. This value is shared amongst all the users and so if the limit was set to 10 KB/s, the result would be that 2 simultaneous downloads would be limited to 5 KB/s each. If only a single user was downloading then they would be able to use the full 10 KB/s.
  • Max Users - This option allows a restriction to be placed on the maximum number of users that can be logged into the server at any one time.
  • Max Users Per IP - This option allows a restriction to be placed on the maximum number of logged in connections for each IP address. This is useful if you want ensure that a single computer doesn't abuse the FTP server by opening too many FTP connections.
  • Ban File Types - This option allows a restriction to be placed on which file types are allowed to be uploaded onto the server. This is useful for preventing dangerous file types, such as exe's, which could potentially contain viruses.
  • Limit Executable File Types - This option allows a restriction to be placed on which file types are allowed to be executed on the server by accounts which have the file execute access right. If this option is disabled, then all file types will be permitted. If a file type is executed which is 'none-executable' (ie. a text file, document, image, etc.), then the file is opened using the default application designated to open that file.
